New York Pesticide Exam Prep for Core and Category 7A
Understand the New York commercial pesticide certification path, compare the NYSDEC Core and Category 7A exams, and prepare with focused drills, realistic simulations, explanations, and progress tracking. Choose one exam—or connect both in a single study path.
Orbait is an independent exam-preparation platform. It does not administer NYSDEC exams, register candidates, collect official New York State fees, replace required eligibility training, or issue pesticide certifications.
Understand the official path before choosing your exam prep.
New York pesticide certification is administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Your required category depends on the pesticide work you plan to perform.
NYSDEC
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation manages eligibility, exams, fees, certification, and recertification.
Core + category
Except for eligible reciprocity pathways, applicants generally pass Core and the category exam that matches their intended work.
$100
NYSDEC currently lists a $100 examination fee. Official state fees are separate from any Orbait preparation purchase.
Online, center, or paper
Certification exams are currently offered through remote online proctoring, approved test centers, and limited regional paper sessions.
Two exams. Two different jobs in your preparation.
Core builds the judgment every applicator needs. 7A tests how that judgment is used inside structures and rodent-control accounts. Explore each preparation system before choosing your path.
New York Core Exam Prep
Learn the rules behind every pesticide decision: labels, exposure, PPE, environmental protection, formulations, IPM, storage, spills, disposal, and regulatory responsibility.
- Label interpretation and legal use
- Toxicity, exposure, first aid, and PPE
- Environmental protection and IPM
- Equipment, storage, transport, spills, and disposal
- Federal and New York responsibilities
Structural & Rodent Prep
Apply Core principles to the environments technicians face every day: residences, restaurants, commercial accounts, multi-family buildings, and rodent-pressure situations.
- Rodent biology, signs, movement, and behavior
- Structural inspection and exclusion
- Sanitation and contributing conditions
- Devices, rodenticides, placement, and monitoring
- Mixed structural and account-based scenarios
From eligibility to New York certification
Commercial technician applicants must qualify to sit for the exams, pass Core and the appropriate category, and then complete the state certification process.
Meet an eligibility pathway
Be at least 17 and generally qualify through a NYSDEC-approved 30-hour course, an eligible college degree, or two years of verifiable apprentice experience.
Pass Core and your category
Core establishes the common pesticide foundation. The category exam verifies knowledge for the type of work you intend to perform.
Complete certification with NYSDEC
After approval and invoicing, NYSDEC currently lists a $450 commercial technician certification fee for one category and a three-year card term.
The rule behind the decision
What does the label require? Which PPE is correct? What creates exposure? How do weather, storage, spills, and environmental conditions change the legal action?
The decision inside the account
Which evidence matters? What should happen first? How do sanitation, exclusion, monitoring, devices, pesticide use, and client conditions become one defensible control plan?
Core gives you the rule. 7A gives you the situation.
Studying them together helps you recognize not only what is true, but which fact controls the answer when an exam question includes several competing details.
Learn the principle
Build confidence with focused Core topics and explanations before mixing concepts together.
See it inside 7A work
Apply safety, label, IPM, and legal judgment to structural and rodent-control scenarios.
Practice until the logic feels familiar
Use mixed questions and timed exams to reduce hesitation and improve decision-making under pressure.
A study platform—not just a list of practice questions.
Move from focused learning to realistic exam practice without losing track of weak areas, missed concepts, or the reason an answer is correct.
Quick Drills & Topic Tests
Study one subject at a time when you need repetition without restarting a full exam.
Mixed Simulations
Practice questions that combine topics and force you to identify the controlling rule or action.
Explanations & Galap AI
Review why an answer works, revisit the underlying concept, and get study support when a topic is unclear.
Final Exams & Progress
Complete timed attempts, revisit missed questions, and monitor improvement before exam day.
Learn to recognize what the question is really testing.
Orbait uses realistic decisions to help you separate important facts from distracting details.
The product is available. The conditions are not.
A label requires chemical-resistant gloves. The available pair is damaged, the treatment area is occupied, and rain is expected shortly. What must happen before the application begins?
The complaint is obvious. The first action is not.
Droppings appear behind food equipment, grease is accumulating, a rear-door gap is open, and the manager wants bait placed immediately. Which action should control the response?
Prepare for one exam or complete the path together.
Every option includes six months of access, explanations, focused practice, simulations, and final-exam preparation.
